Massage a Friend

Tai Chi with Roslyn Levin
Noon - 1:30 PM – Elora Centre for the Arts – Tai Chi is a beautiful art of fluid body movement. It is a system of body/mind exercise that improves one’s health, energy levels, co-ordination and balance. The slow graceful forms of this system bring the body’s functions into harmony and calm the mind, making one’s life more efficient and peaceful. Tai Chi practice promotes sensitivity and calm control in all situations. Roslyn Levin will be demonstrating a set of 24 moves outdoors, weather permitting. This is a sneak peek at our 10-week course which begins in mid-October.

Artist’s Talk and Demonstration – Oriental Brushstrokes with Roslyn Levin

Elegance, simplicity, beauty and serenity with a few brushstrokes! Watch a master, Sumi-e artist Roslyn Levin, as she uses the basic elements of brush, paper and ink to show you how to move and breath with each stroke of the brush.
Roslyn Levin has been creating award-winning pieces in Sumi-e for thirty years. She received the Ruth Yamada Award for excellence in Sumi-e in 2003 and 2005. Her stunning pieces adorn the walls of various collections in Canada, US, Britain, The Netherlands, and Australia.

An “In Motion” event wherein every student is encouraged to walk to school.

Empty Bowls
In August a group of local area potters will gather together and throw or build and decorate upwards of 500 small bowls. These bowls will be sold during Sensational Elora at various locations around the Village and each will come with a coupon for a “Scoop of Soup” from participating area restaurants. All proceeds from the sales will go to the Food Bank.

The Bangkok Project
October 2 – 13 in Elora, on the bridge
The Bangkok Project will occur over the duration of Sensational Elora. This project is an exciting collaboration between Julie Rene de Cotret a local artist and Jung-Chul Hur an established video artist working out of Bangkok.. The Bangkok Project features a recording of the day skies of Bangkok, which will be projected onto the Grand River from the bridge at night. If you could see through the earth it might look like this. The installation will start after dark, weather permitting, and shut off at an appropriate time.
Eleven Pieces in Eleven Days
– an exploration of the senses in metal, clay and glass.
The six feature artists of Styll Gallery will exhibit 11 pieces created specifically for the Sensational Elora Festival. Each work will engage the public by speaking to the senses. In addition to the works on display, the artists will be featured in a video loop, depicting the creative process.
Monster Month
October is time for the ghoulish monsters to return to downtown Elora for Monster Month. The Elora BIA is promising a wildly-decorated downtown and monster specials at local businesses. Monster master Tim Murton will be offering spider-making workshops.
Neighbourwoods’ Poetree
A built “tree” will be “planted” in a public place. “Leaves” will be available for people to write Poems, Earth Messages, Five Word Obituaries (life summations) or other sentiments. These leaves will then be hung on the branches of the tree, sending thoughts to the Universe. This will be a permanent installation for the duration of Sensational Elora. |
