About Empty Bowls
Empty Bowls events provide a means to raise both money and awareness about poverty and hunger in our communities. Potters are the driving force behind these events, volunteering their time and energy to create soup bowls, which are then exchanged for money in support of local charities. As part of Sensational Elora, area residents and visitors alike will have a number of opportunities to obtain bowls and taste superb soups from area chefs and restaurants.
Here’s all you have to do:
Throughout the 10 days of Sensational Elora (October 3rd to 12th, 2009), you can visit Styll Gallery, The Elora General Store or the Sensational Elora offices at 9 Mill Street East and choose from a large assortment of hand-crafted pottery bowls. With your bowl you will receive a coupon for “A Scoop of Soup” redeemable at participating local restaurants.
OR:
Buy a ticket to The Sensational Soup Off to be held on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12th, 2009, organized by Sensational Elora, Centre Wellington Rotary and Slow Food Elora and held at Bissell Park in Elora. When you arrive at the Soup Off you will have an opportunity to choose a bowl from a fabulous selection of handcrafted bowls which have been set aside specifically for this event. The Sensational Soup Off promises to be a fabulous competition between professional and amateur chefs who will create memorable soups using local ingredients. Use your empty bowl to sample all of the soups and then cast your ballot for your favourites. At the end of the event, your bowl will be rinsed for you and your Empty Bowl is yours to take home. This fundraising project is a perfect fit for the season of Thanksgiving. At a time when so many of us have an abundance of family, friends and food, there are those in our community who, at times, need a little help. The Empty Bowls Project is one opportunity to share what we have with others.

About Empty Glasses
Not to be left out, the glass blowing community has joined the project and will be creating glorious hand-blown and etched glass. These glasses and goblets will be sold to guests during Sensational Elora’s “Celebration of the Senses” opening fundraising gala. Patrons will use these hand-crafted glasses to sample unique wines which have been donated courtesy of the Opimian Society.
100% of the sale of these glasses, 100% of the sale of pottery soup bowls and 100% of the ticket sales from the Sensational Soup Off will be donated to the Centre Wellington Food Bank! The Centre Wellington Food Bank assists residents of Centre Wellington and whenever possible provides support to surrounding food banks in Arthur, Mount Forest, and Harriston, which in turn provides support to their local resients.
And, these were our glass artists:
