Something new and exciting is coming to Elora this year. For 11 days in October, from the 2nd to the 13th, Sensational Elora: A Festival of the Senses will offer an exciting medley of food, film, dance, drama, music, entertainment, you name it, all set in a village known for its breathtaking scenery and heritage architecture. There will be something for everyone, for every sense, for every taste. It will, in other words, be Sensational.

Individuals, groups and organizations are participating in Sensational Elora by creating and scheduling events or activities and we are pleased that our calendar is crammed full of exciting and innovative experiences.

To give you an idea of some of what this festival is all about, here is a look at some of our food events:

Sensational Elora: A Festival of the Senses promises to be a gourmet’s paradise. The entire festival is built on the pairing of food with art, film, dance, music and community.

From the opening gala, “A Celebration of the Senses”, where guests will be offered the finest from local and visiting chefs, to the final Thanksgiving Day “Sensational Soup Off” which will be a soup competition of the highest calibre, food will be the order of the day.

What better enjoyment can be had than the “Film on a Plate” series that pairs movies about food (think “Big Night”, “Chocolat”, and you get the idea) with matching food, drink and music?

“A Moveable Feast” features different local restaurants offering one course each to a group of traveling diners who are led from place to place by actors in historical character.

And of course, the Empty Bowls Project will feature “a scoop of soup” from one of dozens of participating restaurants.

In addition, there will be gourmet cooking classes, wine and Scotch tastings and, if we aren’t full enough, a Saturday Farmers’ Market where visitors can shop to their heart’s and stomach’s content.

Elora is in the heart of the agricultural area of Ontario and we celebrate that fact every day of the year but especially at harvest season. So join us for Sensational Elora and taste all that is good in our community.
