FILM

Sensation Elora: A Festival of the Senses will offer the film buff a huge variety choice. Here are a few examples of what is being offered:

  • The “Film on a Plate” series will screen food-related movies on several nights during the festival. The concept is to pair the movies with appropriate food and drink. Our first film will be “Big Night”, a rollicking American-Italian film that will be paired with a robust red wine and some amazing food. We are keeping the whole line up under wraps but we can promise that they each film will be interesting, entertaining and yummy.
  • “Short Cuts to the Senses” Film buffs from around the world have been invited to submit short digital films that reflect the joy they take in their individual communities. Films will be juried by an international panel of film experts. The finalists will be shown at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 and winners will be announced at a second screening to take place on October 12th.
  • “Elora and the Meaning of Beauty” is a provocative full-length documentary film created by David Neelin that asks the question: “What is the meaning of Beauty?” of 30 disparate people, all of whom have some connection to Elora. The movie will be paired with a special-menu dinner served at Alex’s Restaurant and will be followed by discussion led by the filmmaker.

Our friends at Ed Video are joining with us to present a number of film-related events. These include:

  • “The Bangkok Project”, an experimental video projection onto the Grand River that will be shown every evening after sundown.
  • “Drawback” - Shot in Wellington County and featuring local actors, ‘Drawback’ is the third feature length horror movie created by a group of young filmmakers called “Black Fawn Films”.
  • Youth Film Boot Camp - During the month of August, Ed Video and Steph Toohill (a member of the Sensational Elora team) will lead a week-long workshop in film-making for youth. Participants will create music videos and a screening of the results will take place during the Sensational Elora Festival.

Anyone who is a cine buff will not want to miss the films of Sensational Elora and the innovative ways they will be shared with Festival-goers.
